Greetings unto the populace of Northshield,
As we move from the lazy days of summer to the flurry of harvest time and autumn, and the upcoming holiday season, so too do we, as a kingdom, look forward to the upcoming Coronation and Crown Tournament, as well as more and more events being held. We in the Chronicler offices are also busy providing all the information and entertainment we can provide. But to do this, we need your help.
To borrow the phrase from PBS, we rely on “the contributions from readers like you.” Kingdom and local newsletters, websites, and social media platforms are nothing without content from the populace. This is where you all come in. I have a wish list for the Northwatch.
1. We would like artwork and/or photographs for both the cover and within the body of the newsletter. I would love to see portraits of the incoming Crown for the April and September coronation issues next year.
2. Bantiarna Grainne has a general theme for each month. Articles and artwork related to those themes are most welcome. However, submissions on almost any topic are also welcome.
3. We are looking for humorous questions for the “Dear Abbess” feature.
4. We welcome articles from the lesser and deputy kingdom officers, as well as the Great Officers of State. We do recommend having your article approved by your kingdom superior first, to make sure everyone is on the same page.
5. There is a vast reservoir of knowledge and talent in Northshield. If every peer or grant-of-arms in the kingdom contributed just one submission to the Northwatch in their SCA lifetime, we would have material for decades.
6. Let us know what you would like to see in the Northwatch. Send your ideas and suggestions to northwatch@northshield.org
7. Do not just send submissions to the kingdom newsletter. The local newsletters need submissions as well.
When sending submissions, please include a signed copy of the “SCA Creative Work Copyright Assignment/Grant of Use Form”, “SCA Model Release Form”, and/or “SCA Photograph Grant of Use Form”. These forms can be found on the kingdom website, on the Chronicler’s page. Please keep in mind that the deadline for submissions is the 20th of the month, two months in advance. For example, the deadline for submissions for the September 2022 issue was July 20, 2022.
Social media officers, chroniclers, and webministers, the Society recently registered a new badge for the SMO, that can be now added to the newsletters and websites.
The blazon is “(Fieldless) A cap of Mercury argent winged azure” (Emblazon courtesy of the OSCAR submission.)
Work continues on the new kingdom website. I hope to have information on that in the coming months.
If anyone is interested in learning more about the chronicler’s office, and/or is interested in becoming either a local group chronicler, a deputy kingdom chronicler, or Northwatch deputy editor, please let me know. I will be very glad to talk to you about it.
Ever in service to Crown, Kingdom, and you,
Arnbjørn
