June Missive

A Missive from the DEI Deputy:

Sixteen years ago, I joined the SCA as a nerdy, queer, feminist sociology undergrad during a student activity fair. Above all else, the sense of community hooked me. During my time in college, I focused many of my research projects and papers on the social dynamics I saw playing out in the SCA, because it is in many ways, for better and worse, a microcosm of our greater culture. Stepping into the role of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Deputy to the Kingdom Seneschal feels a bit like coming full circle to that curious, idealistic student I used to be and will always be, at a time when our world is perhaps at its messiest and most challenging time of our lives, especially for marginalized communities. I bring my experience, knowledge, and curiosity to the table in support of these communities, and welcome inquiries (I can be reached at equity@northshield.org) as we develop informational resources and identify opportunities and strategies for improvement.
