March Missive

Greetings, Northshield,

Inspired by His Royal Majesty’s touching words about our wise and great Queen, we decided that we too should recognize a special group of people: those who have volunteered to be chatelaines. They had to change from welcoming and helping newcomers in person to being solely online. This is drastic, especially considering the extroverted nature of some who take on this responsibility. And, despite this massive shift in the world and all the stress it brought, they still rose to the occasion and carried out their duties. The new goal became to help newcomers prepare for their first event and to encourage those who are new to continue pursuing their interests. Despite the pandemic and the suspension of events, we’ve had over 50 people contact us since mid-February 2020 and roughly 80 people total from the 1st to the 4th quarter last year, all interested in joining the SCA. That doesn’t even include those who reached out to groups directly, or were introduced by their friends. 

So, while the chatelaines of Northshield may not always be seen, they are still working to help those who are new to pursue the Dream and the results of their service do not go unnoticed. Lastly, we would be remiss if we did not also recognize those seneschals who do not have a group chatelaine for taking on that mantle of hospitality as well as their other duties.
