Greetings and Salutations unto the populace and the great Chatelaines of our fair Kingdom!
It is August and with the close of summer comes a few items of business I feel the need to share. First, quarterly reports are due on the 15th of this month. Please submit your report through the Northshield website. If you are unfamiliar with the process, please contact me. My contact information is also on the Northshield website. I would really appreciate a 100% return on reports this quarter. My report to the SCA Chatelaine is due September 1st so I would really like to include the great things you are doing to recruit and assist new members!
Secondly, I have been hearing really great things about anew way to interest people in the SCA. Many groups have instituted an open Facebook page for their group as away to communicate and to advertise to a broad spectrum of people. This is a great way for people to find us and to get an idea of who we are and what we are about. Several Chatelaines have commented on how the use of a Facebook page has increased membership and helped answer questions newcomers may have. This said I feel it extremely important to reiterate our media policy and to urge all to be cautious when communicating through any social network page. The SCA media relations policy states that you never discuss the following topics with the media:
1) Religion
2) Lewd behavior that can be perceived as a form of sexual harassment
3) Alcohol making, preparation, studies, distribution, sale, etc
4) Households
The same applies to ANY social media forum. Open forums,like those found on Facebook, are venues for people outside the SCA to gain insight into our organization. Please refrain from discussing the 4 above mentioned topics and keep the discussionspolite and friendly. Any conversation that can be seen as controversial, mean spirited, offensive, or derogatory,must be shut down immediately. Failure to do so will mean intervention from my office, the Kingdom Seneschal, or Media Relations.
Lastly, I am in the process of organizing and creating a webpage on the Northshield site dedicated to demos. If anyone has handouts,posters, pamphlets, or creative ideas they successfully use for demos to share, please send them to me so I may add them to this page for the kingdom to use. Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding this project.
