By the time you are reading this missive it will be June and summer is here. It is once again time for camping events, and camping events means outdoor fun in the sun. Just a quick reminder to check your camping gear to make sure everything is in order. Check your first aid kits for expired medications, and don’t forget to add the sun block and aloe. Most of all stay hydrated and have fun.
For those who are interested in the Chirurgeonate, but are not sure how to become a Chirurgeon, here is the information you need. In order to be accepted as a Chirurgeon, a candidate must apply to the Kingdom Chirurgeon in writing. The application must include: a statement of desire from the candidate to become a Chirurgeon-in-Training; proof of current first-aid certification or acceptable equivalent; proof of CPR certification; proof of age of majority; the candidate's SCA name, legal name, address, and telephone number; and proof of membership in the SCA. The application can be found on the Kingdom of Northshield website, under forms on the Chirurgeon Officers page.
Chirurgeons, I am still missing many of your certifications. If you are not sure I have them, please mail or e-mail them to me. I am also not getting many reports, so I am unsure which events were covered, and which of you are still active. If you Chirurgeon at an event drop me a line afterwards to say you were there (and let either the event steward or the Chirurgeon-in-Charge know you were there.) If you are Chirurgeon-in-Charge, drop me a line to say the event was covered. I get all the event reports, but often, the person reporting simply puts N/A for the Chirurgeon portion, which could mean there was no Chirurgeon, or simply that there were no reportable incidents.
Although it is still summer and winter seems a long way off, January is fast approaching, and with it the end of my second year as Kingdom Chirurgeon. With that in mind, I am looking for a successor. To be eligible, you must be a warranted Chirurgeon, be current in your certifications and SCA membership, and be able to travel to make at least a few of the Stallari meetings a year. The position entails being an active Chirurgeon, overseeing the Chirurgeons-in-Training, reporting to Their Majesties and Society Chirurgeon, being a member of Their Majesties’ Stallari Council, and being available as a resource for other Chirurgeons. Interested individuals should send me a resume including both SCA and applicable modern experience. I would like to be able to recommend my successor to Their Majesties, the Stallari, and Society Chirurgeon by Crown Tournament. Also if you have any questions or you are interested in the Regional Chirurgeon (MN, ND, SD, Manitoba, and Ontario) position you can email me at chirurgeon@northshield.org.
Safe travels and fun camping,
Fiona the Younger
