June 2011 Northwatch Missive

Greetings Kinsmen,

It has come to my attention that there are a number ofhousekeeping issues that need to be clarified.

Firstly, all marshals thank you for all of your diligenceand hard work. It is YOUR responsibility to get your reports in on time. Failureto report will result in suspension of your warrant. If you are group Marshal, thismeans the suspension of martial activities in your group.

Next, allow me to clarify the sign-in procedure at the listtable. You are REQUIRED to show your authorization card regardless of rank, station, or position. Expect the list people to ask for it. Please don't givethem a hard time about it. If you have forgotten your authorization card, asenior Marshal may vouch for you. However, this is a courtesy and sinceauthorization cards beginning to expire in the near future, it is important toshow a valid authorization card.

If you have a valid, blue membership card and show it, youare not required to sign the group waiver. If you do not have a valid blue cardyou MUST sign the group waiver.

Anyone participating in a martial activity at an event,(this includes pick up fighting) is required to sign, legibly, the ParticipantSign-Up Sheet. When I am at an event, you can fully expect me to retrieve the ParticipantSign-Up Sheet from the list table, call hold and ensure that anyone who isparticipating has signed in. If you have failed to sign in, I will SUSPEND yourfighting privileges for the duration of the event. There is no excuse for beingon the list field without having properly signed in at the list table!!!

On the heavy weapons side, the legal target area for a facethrust, per the Society Marshal's Handbook, is: “Face: the area between thechin and the middle of the forehead and between the ear openings.” We need towatch this more closely as of late, I have witnessed a far narrowerinterpretation of the face thrust target area than the rules allow.

Per the Society Earl Marshal: Madus are no longer listlegal/approved weapons. Single handed weapons may not have butt spikes. (Note:Great weapons and pole arms may be wielded with one hand and use butt spikes.)In order for it to qualify as a two-handed weapon, the weapon must be at least48” in overall length.

Currently, the Ice Falcon rubber two-handed thrusting tipsare NOT approved as an Experimental Weapon in Northshield. I expect this tochange by my next missive.

Experimental Weapons: Must be marked with GREEN tape andopenly declared as experimental weapon to your opponent(s). Those of you whouse green tape on non-experimental weapons, please stop doing this and tapeyour weapons with another color of tape.

Lastly, warm weather is approaching....STAY HYDRATED!!!!

Be safe and have fun,

Stephen
