Greetings from your Kingdom Social Media Deputy!
There is a new updated Society Social Media Policy that is now in effect - though we are transitioning to it at a moderate pace. One of the purposes of this update is to legitimize Facebook as an *additional* official means of communication. Facebook does not supersede the Northwatch or the Kingdom website but since this is a place that so much conversation is happening, the SCA has found guidelines to help make the process and ‘voice’ clearer.
Luckily, much of this transition for us in Northshield will be pretty painless and mostly behind the scenes. This group has always been an official discussion group and has followed the SCA Social Media Policy for content. We already have a FB Page for the Kingdom (and most of our Baronies) and have been using it to make all the FB Event counterparts to the official website events.
Right now I am working on my quarterly report to Society which includes a survey of all of the Group Pages and Group Groups (...that is awkward) that exist for Northshield. I am only missing a presence for Coille Stoirmeil and Hvitskogar. If you have a link to a Group associated with either of these branches, please share it with me.
I would like all local Branches to check in on their FB Group and look for three things:
1) Groups are required to have at least 2 admins
2) Set a personalized url name for your Group (so it isn’t just a string of numbers)
3) Please add the disclaimer to your Group description... I will put this in the first comment for easy copy/paste.
If you have any questions about the new policy or about maintaining a FB presence for your SCA Branch, please feel free to comment here or contact me at socialmedia @ Northshield.org. There will be additional posts as we continue to transition our local social media - and new ideas, platforms, and opportunities in the future.
Thank you!
