Greetings, Northshield!
Some things have come up in recent knights’ council that I would like to take a moment to address.
First, many fighters are not appropriately communicative when it comes to describing blows. When people are hit they tend to say nothing at all, or maybe a simple “no.” The King has expressed concern over this, and would like members of His fighting community to be more descriptive of exactly why a landed blow is not good.
Second, many fighters are not falling over when killed at events. I realize that in practice we typically do not fall over when good blows are landed, and I fear that is causing us to have bad habits at events. In at least three fights at this past Crown, a combatant was struck after calling a blow good. In each case, the fighter striking the blow apologized. I would like to state though, that it is not the striking fighter’s fault. In tournament, you swing until you are certain your opponent has been bested. An opponent that does not fall over when dead is creating a dangerous situation for themselves. This is doubly important in melee, when it’s possible that multiple people may not know you are dead, and will continue to swing at you.
Thanks! Lars
