Greetings from the Kingdom Youth Combat Marshal,
I hope the winter months find you all well and in good health with kids reworking weapons for the next tourney. With warmer weather coming soon I will be making it to more and more events. If you have any questions please call or write me.
I have been getting some questions and would like to share them. For youth rattan 16 and 17 year olds, both parents must sign the bottom of the authorizing form. The reason for this is to inform both parents of their children?s actives in the SCA. We are moving forward towards having the youth rattan fighters being able to play with the adults. We are not there yet but we are getting closer. I will keep you informed in upcoming letters.
Children's Boffer Division (Ages 6-9) is touch force; we think that some children are having difficulty with blows because they do not always feel them. I would like to know your thoughts on moving blow calibration to positive force. This would allow them to hit slightly harder. I'm looking forward to your comments and options.
I would like to remind all of our marshals that blow calibration will be checked at every event.
One final note kids can learn from other kids and adults. The best place to do this is at your local practice. Adults CAN NOT hit the children with the force of that age group, only other youth marshals and other kids in that age range can. But anyone can show a youth how to throw a good blow and work on technique with them. If this is unclear please let me know.
