I think he's dead, Martin! I think he's dead, Martin!

June Missive

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood Earl Marshal,

Summer time is quickly approaching and I would ask that everyone takes an evening to go over their gear to ensure it is still in proper order.  Armored combatants, if you can’t recall how old your helm padding, it is most likely due for a replacement. Take care of yourselves out there!

My office has been busy with several updates. In March, the updated Marshals Administration Handbook was revised and published on the Kingdom website. The goal of this handbook is for it to be used by all marshals in addition to their activities-specific handbook. Please pay close attention to the updated reporting schedule and requirements. We continue to have problems with marshals not submitting event paperwork in in a timely manner. The new handbook has a clear “due date” for all paperwork. Failure to submit these reports on time may lead to your removal as a marshal.

Also, a reminder that at this point my office is only allowing a Group Marshal-in-training for Youth Boffer Combat on a case-by-case basis. I want to see boffer continue to grow; however: for liability reasons I need to ensure that any GMiTs have been vetted thoroughly. If you have not heard directly from me that you are allowed to be a GMiT for boffer, than the short answer is "No, you are not."

Finally I would like to announce that I plan to end my term in office shortly after this year’s Domesday. I will be accepting applications for the office from June 1st through September 15th. My hope is to have my predecessor chosen shortly after September 15th so that they can “shadow” me for the final quarter of the year and see how the Domesday report works before I turn over the office. A full description of the job requirements will be listed on the Kingdom website, but in short you need to
• Be a member of the society in good standing.
• Be accessible via email and by phone (social media helps, but is not a requirement).
• Be able to spend around 10-20 hours a week answering questions and responding to emails.
• Able to report to society and the Kingdom in a timely manner.
• Be willing to interpret policies as needed, as well as intervene when needed.

If you are interested in the position and would like to discuss it with me in detail please feel free to seek me out.
