Notes about the Award/Scroll:
This scroll was based on norigae, belt ornaments worn by Korean women during the Joseon Dynasty, and navigational compasses. While the only examples in the National Museum of Korea of Joseon compasses-as-norigae are from outside the SCA period, all elements of this recreation are from before the 1600s. The compass face is in hanja, the front of the box features the Ten Symbols of Longevity, and the back is a mix of Hangul and Latin script. The knot is a gukwa or chrysanthemum knot.
