During this continued downtime, we encourage you all to keep planning for the future. New people continue to reach out to us, curious about joining, and seeking more information about the SCA. As that interest in being a part of Northshield continues, many make their way to the SCA not through chatelaines, but through friends and the internet. There are things that you can do to provide support.
1. Share in moderation. It is easy to overwhelm people with information, help, and resources. This can be a challenge for many of us, because we have unbridled enthusiasm. However, people can only retain so much, so it’s a time to practice patience in balance with our zeal to help new friends.
2. Listen. Learn their story, because their story will become our story.
3. Tell your stories. Share the best of your experiences with new people. Our stories and traditions are what the SCA is made of and you can inspire the next chapter.
4. Help build a positive foundation in your group to help facilitate newcomers’ growth in the SCA. Learn new things, discover new ways of getting together, and most importantly, have fun.
5. Connect them with their local chatelaine or the Kingdom Chatelaine office so that they can share the tools and connections to prepare them for a long-term journey in the SCA.
Thank you, Northshield, for continuing to show unity and enthusiasm to those that join us. You will help the new generations learn of The Dream of yesterday, that they will experience tomorrow.
