Darkwood Tips - Check and Report Any Issues

Hello Northshield Rapier Marshals, Group Marshals, and MITs:

Due to recent incidents involving Darkwood rapier tips, I am asking each of you to help me specifically track incidents in hopes to head off problems. I am asking that as you do your inspections of weapons you look closely for cracking or breaking at the tip of Darkwood tip blunts.

If you find tips that are close to failure or are worn through, please:

Have the combatant replace the tip right away. If at all possible collect the tip
Send a report to your regional describing if the failure was during inspection or during sparring, as well as if there was any injury. Also attempt to determine the relative age of the tip.
If you are able to collect the tip, please contact the KRM and arrange to send to tip to me for inspection.

We are trying to ensure that we minimize the risk of injury to everyone who comes out to the field. Part of that is being honest and reporting when things go wrong. By gathering information, we can hopefully see if this is an isolated problem, or a problem that needs to be dealt with on a policy level.
