December 2010 Northwatch Missive

There is a Japanese proverb that states, “One kind word can warm three winter months,” and that is the joy of living in Northshield. We have the ability to speak a kind word to our friends and neighbors that will warm our hearts and help the winter pass quickly. And thus I start my missive by wishing all the best for the holiday season, no matter which holiday it is that you celebrate.

Primus. The theme for this issue was simple—Winter. While there was not a huge number of submissions, those that I did get are so good that they fill these pages well. A story to while away the cold winter’s nights; an idea for a project to build a Viking chest; a puzzle to remind us of projects we could be doing instead of reading these pages; and some wonderfully humorous art by Simonis. I hope that you enjoy what you find within these pages. Theme for January will be “Fire and Warmth”; Deadline for submissions is December 1.

Secundus. It is with great pleasure that I announce that my successor will be THL Berengaria of Outremer from the Barony of Castel Rouge. Berengaria and I will work together for the next few months and she will be my Emergency Deputy starting in January until she succeeds me—that date has not been decided upon at this time.

Tertius. Please remember to use the new permission-to-publish forms found at http://tinyurl.com/2aegbu2 under the forms link. These are for both print and web publications.

Quod denique. Travel in the winter in Northshield can be iffy at times, but my hope is to be at Nordskogen’s 12th Night, It’s Only a Flesh Wound, and perhaps And Now For Something Completely Different in January.

I remain, in service to the Northshield, our Society, and most of all, to the
populace~~
