November 2010 Northwatch Missive

Greetings on this fine autumn day-

Anyone who knows me knows that this is my favourite time of year. The weather is finally cool enough to enjoy but not too cold to drive us to our hearths. We can finish getting our homesteads ready for the long, cold winter and prepare the materials of the projects we want to accomplish by the time the snow melts away.

Primus. I set this month’s theme to be “Thankful to be in Northshield: Tales told in stories, music and songs” and received a few theme-specific submissions. Thora was kind enough to do one of her fantastic pieces of art for the cover that reminds us of our roots and I love her for it! A couple of the articles are not necessarily on the theme but definitely worth the read. Master Fiskr’s looking back on a bit of our history makes me chuckle whenever I read it. I wish I could have published Duchess Katerina’s (of Atenveldt) piece before the Crown Tournament was fought (at least I was able to forward it to the Hall ahead of the tourney) as a reminder that what we do is still magical at times even when some of us get old and jaded.

Secundus. The theme for the December issue is more free-form than some have been. I’d love to have articles on “Winter Holiday Traditons” and/or articles on “Winter projects to do when it’s too cold or snowy to be outside”. So, I guess the theme is “Winter”.

Tertius. There are new permission to publish and release forms available at northshield.org that are to be used from now on. You will find a number of them to cover regular articles, art, and photography as well as model release forms. Please use these forms for all print and web-based publications.

Quod denique. My travel looks to be limited in November and December and the only event I am sure I will be at is Boar’s Head. Also, I hope to announce my successor in the December issue.

I remain, in service to the Northshield, our Society, and most of all, to the
populace~~
