March Missive

Greetings,

I am Lady Dyonisia Buleheued, the new Chancellor of the Exchequer. At 12th Night in the Barony of Nordskogen, I stepped up to take on this job from Master Michael St. Christian. Michael stepped up to help the Kingdom maintain good standing with the Society in a pinch, and for this I thank him from the bottom of my heart. He will be staying on as my drop dead deputy to allow him to finish several projects for this office and to make sure that I am ready to run on my own.

Here's a little background on me. I have been married for 16 years to John la Sauvage and we have two girls. We have been members of the SCA for 11 years and I have been a reenactor since 1994 in the American Civil War. I have worked in local government in parks and recreation for 10 years and at a non-profit agency in volunteer management and free tax prep for 10 years. I have been living in Northern Wisconsin working my way through being a group exchequer, a group herald, eastern regional exchequer, and clerk of precedence before stepping into this office.

Chancellor of the Exchequer is not an office that you work alone in. Support from the drop dead deputy, the regionals, and the CERNs are very important and very much appreciated. And to the group exchequers, who keep their groups going and help report information to both kingdom and the Society. Thank you for all of your hard work, endurance, and being willing to be an exchequer.

Over the next 9 to 12 months, the kingdom will once again undertake the book review process. Due to changes made by the Society, these reviews will be very different from past ones. Duchess Anne of Warwick will be leading this endeavor. Please look for information from her.

I would also like to work on providing more education for our kingdom exchequers. Society put out new financial policies in 2017. I would like to educate exchequers of all levels, including those just interested in the office, in what these new policies mean and what needs to be done. Please look for more information regarding this in the future.

I hope that going forward we can keep the books of our groups and the kingdom more open and transparent so that the money we have may be used to benefit all at the group or kingdom level.

One last thought. My dad always taught me “No question is stupid, only ones not asked are.” As the old adage goes, my door is always open and if I can not answer your question, I will ask and try to find one for you.

I look forward to seeing those attending the Northshield Kingdom Heraldic and Scribal Symposium, Spring Coronation, and Spring Crown Tournament.

Dyonisia
